FRANCE - GARDENS OF NORMANDY
In the delightful region of Normandy, beautiful gardens abound throughout the many chateaux, manor houses and private homes in this fertile region. This ever popular tour features a selection of the best including Claude Monet's garden at Giverny. Contrasting gardens await at Le Jardin d'Aganpanthe whilst the wonderfully themed landscaped gardens at Le Clos du Coudray offer yet another perspective.
2nd - 6th July, 5 days, Hotel Berteliere Best Western, £385pp HB accomodation.
Head down to Dover, across to Calais and on to Rouen.
Two wonderful gardens lie within easy reach of Rouen, each created from nothing. Head over to Le Jardin d'Agapanthe, where twisting footpaths take the visitor through a series of contrasting gardens. After lunch visit the Le Clos du Coudray, which contains a connoisseur's collection of thousands of plant species artfully landscaped in 25 themed gardens.
Spend time exploring Rouen itself before travelling to The Chateau de Champ de Bataille, near le Neubourg. Known as the "Norman Versailles", it has recently been restored to its 18th Century splendor in the style of Louis XIV.
Monet's Garden, Giverny has been carefully restored in its original style, to reflect the scene that Monet captured in his world famous watercolours. The wisteria-clad bridges, water lilies, and weeping willows were his inspiration for more than twenty years and remain as popular as ever. Then onto La Roche-Guyen with its spectacular chateau.
Head back to Calais for the return crossing and then onto home.
